A CASE STUDY: Re-design Project

What's Cookin'

WHERE IT BEGAN

I grew up...

cooking, sharing meals, and celebrating food with family for my whole life. Even now, it is tradition to share a meal every night.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

what's the prob?

With the impact of Covid-19 rendering my family unable to meet and cook as often as we used to, we struggle to find ways to be able to spend quality time together all while being six feet apart.

Marie lives far away from her family. Every weekend, Marie and her family would meet for a Sunday dinner. However, with the rise of Covid-19, her children are scared of Marie getting sick. Now, Marie has to find a way to still connect with her beloved family.

What's the inspo?

BeReal.

Every day at a different time, everyone is notified simultaneously to capture and share a photo in 2 minutes.BeReal. is a new form of social media that allows people to share moments in their day quickly. Using Bereal as a basis for my design, allows me to create a seamless way for my family to share their foods with each other.

MORSEL

Never lose family recipes again. Turn old family recipe cards into an online family cookbook that you can use for generations to come.

PAPRIKA

Paprika is an app that helps you organize your recipes, make meal plans, and create grocery lists. Using Paprika's built-in browser, you can save recipes from anywhere on the web.

INSTAGRAM

Give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together.

Low-Fidelity Prototyping

To start a journey map was created for my parents and grandparents to test. My goal for this experiment was to see how my family understood and reacted to their meals being shared with each other.

USER TESTING

When pairing both the journey map and prototypes...

PARENTS

With knowledge of BeReal already, parents had little to no issue getting through the initial function of the app and enjoyed being able to share their recipes without having to worry about cooking for everyone in the family.

GRANDPARENTS

Lacking knowledge of BeReal, grandparents had a big issue being able to use the camera API and understanding what the notification meant. To fix this issue, the call to action was changed to “show us what you’re eating” to clear any confusion.

Low-Fidelity Prototyping

Re-visiting sketching, I was able to expand upon the recipe request user flow. Features allow users to easily view and access buttons for the elderly.

High-fidelity prototyping

FINAL THOUGHTS....

I really enjoyed this project, and designing for families is something near and dear to my heart. I hope in the future, I can fully expand upon adding family members through a web of family history.Designing for elderly was easier than expected, by using larger buttons and simple call to actions.
